More stunt Dressing: Crossword gown #2

The ACPT (otherwise understood as the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament) was held a few weeks back in Brooklyn. You all may keep in mind that I made & used a crossword-puzzle themed gown for last year’s tournament; this year I resolved to do the same. (It was much simpler — as well as much, much much more likely — than resolving to win!)

Unfortunately, though, my Quasi-Evil plan to have some crossword themed customized material printed went awry (through lack of planning on my part — I didn’t leave sufficient time to get both the material as well as the gown made). So, I wondered, what else might I do?

I did this:

I can’t keep in mind what pattern I utilized — some vintage 1960s simplicity thing — I can dig up the number if anyone’s interested.

The black as well as white materials are both quilting cottons (which, in part, discusses exactly how rumpled as well as mussed it looks — that stuff is a pain to iron!). The black lines are black bias tape.

What I did was cut out all the gown pieces as well as do about half the building — darts, the major seams of the skirt — as well as then put on the black squares, which are secured to the white material by the bias tape.

I did refrain from doing a great task of matching the blocks across seams, as you can see above, where the midsection blocks don’t satisfy the skirt blocks extremely well (darn pleats!) as well as here, on the back:

I would have tried harder on the back, however I was still completing it extremely late the night before we left, as well as the only zipper that was best length was an unnoticeable one, as well as nothing on earth will make me take out an unnoticeable zipper when I have it (mostly) in. My rationalization was “It’s Brooklyn in February; I’ll be using a cardigan over it anyway.”

I was likewise going to utilize the embroidery function on my device to do numbers in all the suitable boxes however it got truly tiring viewing my device embroider numbers, as well as again, late at night, so I stop after about three:

In spite of the building bobbles as well as my laziness, I believe this gown was a qualified success … although it was just somewhat as well subtle, particularly when compared to a few of the other crossword-themed garments at the tournament. (Although it was good to feel tasteful in a stunt dress, for once.)

Any concepts of what I ought to do next year?
